Photonic Research Scientist
Your Role
Irreversible is looking for experts in quantum optics and photonics to work on theoretical and experimental aspects of emergent optics-based computing platforms and investigate their applications. Our R&D team is interested in hearing from high-caliber scientists excited to contribute to research and development in cutting edge low-energy consumption AI chips.
What You'll Do
Work alongside peers who have unique and creative backgrounds in physics, computer science, mathematics, and engineering
Continually learn through your work and active engagement with the academic community
Engage in knowledge transfer on quantum optics and photonics to teammates working in the broader field of analog information processing
Design and lay out high-quality photonic integrated circuit blocks, ensuring verification and documentation at each step.
Propose and implement design strategies to optimize area, speed, and power consumption.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of software models.
Provide support in lab testing and characterization of the circuits.
Perform simulations and benchmarking and present to and learn from collaborators
Take part in crafting reports, drafting patents, authoring publications, and attending conferences
What You'll Bring
A PhD or equivalent experience with a research focus on theoretical, computational, or experimental quantum optics
Passion for the field of advanced analog computing and artificial intelligence
Strong expertise and demonstrated research experience in quantum optics; solid background knowledge in the quantum theory of light, including its key concepts, such as Fock space, quantum coherence, quantum noise, squeezed vacuum states, entangled states, quadrature operators, phase space representations of quantum states of light (e.g. Wigner distribution, P representations, etc.), homodyne measurement, non-linear quantum optics, the theory of open quantum systems, master equations, and stochastic processes and their modeling with stochastic differential equations
A strong track record in research demonstrated by peer reviewed publications and top-tier conference presentations
Experience with photonic design software (e.g. Lumerical, KLayout, or equivalent software).
The ability to work well with others towards a common goal
Research independence: the ability to take responsibility and initiative to conduct your research as required in working towards the common goal
Experience with Unix/Linux and strong programming skills (e.g., Python, C/C++), and software development tools (e.g. GitHub) is an asset
Experience in experimental quantum optics and photonics is an asset
